Kanji anyone?

Our Japanese exchange student (post to follow about our fun week!) gave us these really beautiful Kanji characters. I wanted to frame them and put them up, but I don't know what they mean. We tried to ask our student, but his English was pretty minimal! Before I hang them in the house, I would prefer knowing they say something like "Family" or "Happiness" instead of "Brown Dog." So, does anyone know Kanji (hint hint Tiffany;-)? Can you translate?!

  1. Hahahaha! You think I remember much from two years of high school Japanese? :) I wish I did! Those are lovely kanji, though! I'm looking forward to hearing more about your week.

  2. The big girls saw this post and had the good idea to get out our Japanese hymnbook. I opened the book and the very first kanji I looked at matched one from inside the title of "Jesus, Lover of My Soul." !!! What are the chances of that happening? Anyway, the one on the right, bottom looks very much like one in that hymn title. Probably "soul"? We'll look some more and get back to you.

  3. Aha! That symbol on the bottom right means love. :) I'll try to find the other ones.

  4. The top right one means "friend". So that is friend and love for that one. :)

  5. Well, we're going to stop for now. But we did find the other kanji as part of the kanji for "guide". We were having fun looking at online kanji dictionaries. :)

  6. Tiffany! What a great idea to look at online dictionaries. Thank you for your searching- I didn't know if you would remember any Kanji, but you have a better chance than me!!
