Friday we hosted Paul's family Christmas party. It is one of our favorite traditions! Every year we choose a different nationality of food to serve. This year we traveled to the exotic deep south USA (OK, OK, so it isn't a different nationality, but I couldn't come up with the right word to use: genre of food, type of food?). In the past we have served: Mexican, Italian, French, Chilean, Chinese, Greek, Hawaiian, and a few others. This year we did a low country boil (among other things). Basically you boil a bunch of food in a big pot, drain off the water, and dump the food on a table covered with newspaper. Then everyone can pick out the food that they want and you sit around and eat. The kids were very impressed with the crabs. It was a great night!
What an interesting idea, I've never heard of that before. It seems like something that would be appealing to kids.
ReplyDeleteThat looks fun! Yum.
ReplyDeleteI like your tradition of doing something different! Usually our traditions mean doing something the same over and over again. It would be fun to give your idea a try sometime. Maybe New Year's? Hum...
ReplyDeleterachel does that with her husbands family every year around thanksgiving - she hates seafood so she mostly eats all that extra stuff but sound so good to me!
ReplyDeleteWow! That looks like a lot of fun. My kids sure weren't impressed with our latest ethnic food -- haleem (a spicy beef-wheat-lentil-barley concoction served with cilantro, lemon, ginger, fried onions, and pita bread) but I thought it was great. This looks like something the kids would enjoy a lot more!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like fun, and perhaps this is a stupid question...but does all of the food absorb the other foods' flavors? And wow, that is one gigantic crab!
